The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its campaign to suspend Congress Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Naseer Ahmed following his alleged derogatory comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The demand for action was formally submitted to Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti by a delegation led by Leader of Opposition Chalavadi Narayanaswamy.
The controversy arose during a session that turned heated when Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was addressing a motion of thanks to the Governor's address. During this exchange, Ahmed allegedly made remarks that BJP members found offensive, especially given Ahmed's position as political secretary to the chief minister.
Despite the Chairman expunging the remarks from the official record, BJP members staged a protest within the council, insisting that Ahmed issue an apology. As tensions mounted and Ahmed failed to apologize, the Chairman proceeded with a vote on the Governor's address, which was adopted amidst the ongoing commotion, leading to the adjournment of the House.
