Amid allegations of favoritism, Mumbai Congress president Varsha Gaikwad has accused the Maharashtra government of offering undue financial leniency to the Adani Group. Gaikwad claims these concessions undermine the state's financial health, ostensibly strained by welfare schemes.
In a statement shared on X, Gaikwad criticized the government's repeated waiver of royalty payments for the Adani Group in relation to the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, labeling it as part of the state's decision to prioritize the conglomerate over public welfare.
The Congress leader highlighted recent remarks from state Forest Minister Ganesh Naik about monetizing teakwood properties to ease the financial pressure caused by welfare programs. Gaikwad questions the logic behind waiving such substantial fees for a supposedly vital public project, given the fiscal strains portrayed by state officials.
