The Election Commission has instigated a comprehensive reshuffle involving 13 IAS officers in West Bengal, which is gearing up for imminent polls. This strategic redeployment includes appointing district magistrates as district election officers.
Prominent appointments include Jitin Yadav in Cooch Behar and Sandeep Ghosh in Jalpaiguri, among others. Smita Pandey is designated the Municipal Commissioner of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and district election officer for Kolkata North.
The move is aimed at maintaining the integrity and fairness of the electoral process, as officers are tasked with oversight and monitoring of elections at the district level. The changes are effective immediately, with a compliance report required by March 19.
