The Election Commission is setting an ambitious target for voter turnout in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, aiming for an increase to over 85%. CEO Ratan U Kelkar shared these goals while introducing 'Vottarivu,' an essential election reference manual prepared by the Press Information Bureau in Thiruvananthapuram.
This manual, designed for journalists, provides a thorough overview of Kerala's electoral history and detailed insights from the 2021 elections, where turnout reached 75.60%. Kelkar emphasized the importance of 'Vottarivu' as a valuable resource encouraging journalists to promote constructive election coverage.
According to V Palanichamy, Additional Director General of PIB for the Kerala-Lakshadweep region, the guide will be instrumental for the media. Available in digital form, it covers Kerala's electoral journey since 1957 and presents crucial data for the 2026 elections scheduled on April 9.
