In a significant policy announcement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared an expansion of the state's 'Orunodoi' scheme. The decision, unveiled during election rallies, will permit two women from larger households to benefit from the program instead of the existing one-person rule.

Currently, the Orunodoi scheme provides financial support of Rs 1,250 per month to around 40 lakh eligible women across the state. Sarma emphasized the importance of this initiative in addressing fundamental household needs and reiterated his commitment to including all eligible women post-elections.

An expansion will also allow newlywed brides of sons in beneficiary families to receive aid. Additionally, Sarma criticized the Congress for what he termed as a 'pro-illegal immigrant' agenda, urging voters to back the BJP to protect local rights as elections approach.
