In a strategic move, opposition parties have unified against the delimitation provisions included in the upcoming Constitution amendment bill, while maintaining their support for women's reservation. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that their resistance is aimed at the political motivations behind the bill's introduction, not the concept of women's reservations itself.
Leaders from the INDIA bloc and Aam Aadmi Party gathered at Kharge's residence to coordinate their approach for the special three-day Parliamentary session. This session will address both the Women's Reservation Bill and constitutional amendments. Kharge, supported by senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, criticized the government's intentions, accusing them of attempting to quash opposition voices.
Joining the discussion were prominent leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, DMK's T R Baalu, and others from diverse political factions, culminating in a unified stance against what they perceive as a strategy designed to secure the ruling party's dominance through delimitation. The session from April 16 to 18 will scrutinize the proposed implementation of the Women's Reservation Act by 2029.
