Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has accused the Congress party of having a "duplicitous stance" on women's empowerment, saying their opposition to the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, has exposed their true intentions.
The bill, which sought to implement the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, was defeated in the Lok Sabha, with Choudhary alleging that the Congress was fearful of women becoming empowered. In response, Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, noted the bill was hastily introduced and accused the government of using women's empowerment as a political tool.
Protests by the women wing of LJP(RV) against Congress leaders ensued, with the party condemning the Opposition's role in stalling the bill's passage, which aimed to secure 33% reservation for women in legislatures, a proposal supported by PM Narendra Modi.
