Colombian cyclist Cristian Camilo ⁠Muñoz tragically died following medical ⁠complications after an accident ⁠during France's Tour du Jura competition, his team NU Colombia confirmed on Friday.

The 30-year-old sustained a knee injury in a Saturday crash before traveling to Spain, where he was hospitalized due to a 'difficult-to-treat' infection. Despite the medical team's efforts, Muñoz passed away on Friday morning, prompting the team to withdraw from the Vuelta a Asturias.

International Cycling Union president David Lappartient offered condolences on social media, mourning the loss of Muñoz, who had an impressive career, winning stages at Clasica de Anapoima and Vuelta a Boyaca.
