Gujarat cabinet members passed a resolution on Wednesday expressing gratitude to the state's voters for trusting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the just held local body elections, which were swept by the ruling outfit. The congratulatory resolution also thanked Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for providing capable leadership, officials said. A day after the BJP registered a thumping victory in the April 26 local self-government body elections in Gujarat, the state cabinet met under the chairmanship of Patel. ''In the meeting, a unanimous congratulatory resolution was passed by cabinet members expressing gratitude to the citizens of the state for their unwavering trust in the BJP and appreciating the capable leadership of the Chief Minister,'' said government spokesperson and senior minister Jitu Vaghani. The people of the state endorsed the development vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the strong leadership of CM Patel, leading to the BJP's massive victory in the polls, he said. In the 2026 local self-government elections in Gujarat, the BJP achieved a historic victory. The 65 million people of Gujarat have once again placed their trust in the BJP government, read the official text of the resolution. It listed welfare schemes and achievements of the BJP governments over the last 25 years. ''Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat has witnessed unprecedented development for over two-and-a-half decades. From providing electricity to every village through the Jyotigram Yojana to building an extensive canal network through Sujalam Sufalam and SAUNI schemes, remarkable achievements have been realized. Initiatives like the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit and promotion of MSMEs have led to exceptional industrial growth,'' the resolution said. The resolution mentioned schemes and initiatives that benefited the citizens of Gujarat. ''Whether it is the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala Yojana, or SVANidhi Yojana, Gujarat has ensured that the benefits reach the last person without exclusion,'' as per the resolution. Gujarat has further strengthened its image as a policy-driven state and is leading the country in emerging sectors like semiconductors and renewable energy. Following the success of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, regional conferences were organized, benefiting the people significantly, it noted. At a time when the central government has launched welfare initiatives such as Lakhpati Didi, Drone Didi, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, PM Vishwakarma Yojana, and Stand-Up India, Gujarat has set an example in their implementation, according to the resolution. The document declared ''a new era in sports'' has started in the BJP-ruled state, which is set to host a mega sporting event in 2030. ''With Gujarat being selected to host the Commonwealth Games 2030, a new era has begun in the sports sector, contributing to the BJP's sweeping victory in all municipal corporations (numbering 15),'' the resolution said. The cabinet resolution highlighted key rural and social welfare initiatives, including the Chief Minister Gramotthan Yojana and promotion of natural farming, which have strengthened rural development across the state. It noted rising adoption of solar energy in villages, improved daytime electricity supply for farmers, simplified land transaction rules, and continued relief support during natural disasters. It highlighted welfare measures for marginalized communities inspired by Dr B R Ambedkar, including increased OBC representation in local bodies, a higher income limit of Rs 3.6 lakh for SC scholarships, and implementation of schemes such as Manav Garima Yojana, Dr Ambedkar Overseas Study Loan, and Samras Hostels. The cabinet detailed efforts taken by the government for tribal welfare, including the observance of 'Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas' in honour of revered tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda, along with various development schemes for adivasi communities. Gujarat has consistently witnessed public support for development-oriented governance over the past 25 years, emphasised the document. The resolution reaffirmed the government's commitment to continued development aligned with the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' and the goal of a 'Viksit Gujarat', ensuring welfare, security, and prosperity for all citizens. The BJP on Tuesday swept the local body elections by winning all 15 municipal corporations besides 33 out of 34 district panchayats in Gujarat. The ruling party also bagged most of the seats in 250 taluka panchayats and 84 municipalities that went to the polls.
