In an unexpected political upheaval, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has triumphed in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, displacing the Left Democratic Front (LDF) after a decade-long governance. This seismic shift was confirmed as the UDF comfortably surpassed the majority threshold by winning 71 out of 140 seats, signaling a clear dismissal of the LDF's longstanding rule and a formidable resurgence for the Congress-led coalition.

According to the latest results, the Indian National Congress has clinched 41 Assembly seats in Kerala and is leading in 22, totaling 63. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking a historic achievement in the state's political arena, has secured three Assembly seats for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). State BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar emerged victorious in the Nemom seat, V Muraleedharan narrowly defeated V Sivankutty in Kazhakootam, and B B Gopakumar won the Chathannoor seat.

Commenting on the triumph, Chandrasekhar attributed the election results to a pronounced anti-incumbency sentiment against the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He noted that for the first time, a broader electorate has lent support to the BJP, reflecting a substantial shift witnessed during previous local body elections, where the NDA was given the mandate for governance in Thiruvananthapuram. This electoral victory marked the commencement of a new developmental era for Kerala, underscoring a profound repudiation of the CPI(M)'s governance by the electorate.
