In the Kerala Assembly elections, the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) experienced a major setback as 13 of its 21 cabinet ministers faced defeat. The losses come despite the efforts of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who along with a handful of ministers, managed to retain their seats.
Among the most notable defeats was Health Minister Veena George, who lost to Congress candidate Abin Varkey by a margin of 18,985 votes. Devaswom Minister V N Vasavan, considered popular within the cabinet, also faced a surprising defeat in Ettumanoor at the hands of Congress contender Nattakom Suresh, losing by 19,752 votes.
The election results reflect a significant swing towards the Congress party across the state, marking an end to the unchallenged dominance of the LDF. In key battles, LDF stalwarts like Education Minister V Sivankutty and Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar were defeated, highlighting a dynamic shift in Kerala's political landscape.
