In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and former Union Minister V Muraleedharan secured the Kazhakootam Assembly constituency in Keralam with a narrow margin of 428 votes over CPI(M)'s Kadakampally Surendran.

Reacting to the victory, Muraleedharan attributed it to the recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts towards India's development. He emphasized the election as an expression against the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and noted the BJP's performance in other seats.

This election marks a turning point for the BJP in Keralam, as it now has three MLAs in the state assembly for the first time, highlighting a broader acceptance among the electorate. The state went to the polls on April 9, recording a voter turnout of 78.27%.
