The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, securing 156 seats and leading in 52 others as of Monday, according to figures from the Election Commission.
With a total of 208 seats claimed, the BJP has comfortably surpassed the majority mark of 147 in the 293 uncontested constituencies, as polling in one had been countermanded.
This landmark victory breaks the 15-year stronghold of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) and signifies the BJP's expanding influence in both urban and rural areas of West Bengal.
