The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly polls on April 23 marked a historic voting turnout of 85.12% — the highest in the state's history. Vote counting commenced on May 4, with TVK candidates leading from the outset across numerous constituencies.
TVK secured significant leads in key districts, including Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai. Despite strong showings by the DMK and AIADMK alliances, no party reached the 118-seat majority mark. TVK, however, led in over 100 seats, positioning itself as the largest party.
By the end of the vote count, TVK won 108 seats, DMK alliances 73, and AIADMK alliances 53. Vijay, TVK's president, won in dual constituencies. For TVK to form a government, support from DMK or AIADMK factions is essential as no party won a majority independently, a first in Tamil Nadu's electoral history.
