Political activist Yogendra Yadav has cast the recent election outcomes in West Bengal and Assam not as mere political contests but as part of a broader civilisational battle in India. During the unveiling of the Hindi book 'Jaati aur Sampradayikta ke Vishanu' in New Delhi, he urged citizens not to view elections as merely about seats and power, but as a struggle for the nation's foundational principles.
Yadav criticized the BJP and RSS for what he described as attacks on India's historical ethos and core values. The BJP's sweeping victories in these elections, particularly in West Bengal where they won 207 of 294 seats, reflect more than political dominance, he argued; they challenge the country's 'civilisational ethos.'
Urging continued political engagement, Yadav warned against disengagement, emphasizing that political participation extends beyond election contests to include intellectual reflection and cultural engagement. He noted that historical crises can spark transformative ideas, emphasizing that today's India needs new thinkers to address its challenges. 'Jaati aur Sampradayikta ke Vishanu,' the focus of the launch event, explores how languages across India reinforce caste and communal biases.
