In a significant political development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has submitted his resignation to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. This move follows the Bharatiya Janata Party's decisive victory in the Assam Assembly elections, paving the way for a third consecutive term for the party in the state.
Addressing the media outside the Lok Bhavan, Sarma confirmed that the Governor has requested him to continue handling state affairs in a caretaker capacity until the new government is formed. He highlighted that the Election Commission of India's notification of the election results led to his formal resignation and the dissolution of the current assembly.
Expressing gratitude to the people of Assam, Sarma noted the public's confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government's development agenda. The BJP's victory, securing 82 out of 126 seats, underscores a mandate for continued growth and collaboration between the state and central government.
