A 35-year-old man allegedly hacked his elderly father and wife to death over a family dispute in Jharkhand's Lohardaga district on Monday morning, police said.

The incident took place at Sengra Toli village within the Bhandra Police Station limits, when the man attacked his 60-year-old father Surendra Oraon and wife Sujita Oraon, aged 27, a senior officer said.

''Sandeep Oraon, the accused, has been arrested. The bodies of both the deceased were sent for post-mortem examinations at Sadar Hospital,'' Lohardaga Superintendent of Police (SP) Sadique Anwar Rizvi said.

His three-year-old girl was injured during the attack and was undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said.

The axe used in the crime was seized from the crime spot, the officer said.

The police are interrogating the accused, and an investigation into the case is underway.
