Rajasthan Assembly's Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully on Monday attacked the BJP-led Centre over the fourth increase in petrol and diesel prices in less than two weeks and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of adopting a double standard on fuel prices.
Jully said the latest hike, coming after the assembly elections in five states, has put addition burden on common people.
''PM Narendra Modi, while serving as Gujarat chief minister, used to describe fuel price hikes as proof of the failure of the then Congress-led central government headed by former prime minister Manmohan Singh,'' he said.
Jully questioned how the same policies were now being projected differently after Modi became prime minister.
Jully also targeted the chief minister, saying that while serving as the leader of the opposition, Bhajanlal Sharma frequently raised the issue of high VAT rates on fuel, but had now remained silent.
He alleged that Rajasthan has among the highest VAT rates on petrol and diesel compared with neighbouring states.
