The Congress Party has selected Wazed Ali Choudhury to lead its Legislature Party in Assam, a decision announced on Tuesday. Joy Prakash Das will serve as his deputy, according to official communications.
The appointments were sanctioned by the Congress President and communicated by K C Venugopal, the AICC general secretary for organization. This announcement follows a previous statement from Bhupesh Baghel in Guwahati, indicating an imminent decision from the Congress high command regarding Assam's opposition leadership.
The recent state elections saw Congress winning 19 seats, prominently with 18 being held by Muslim members, highlighting the party's voter base dynamics. Joy Prakash Das stands as the sole Hindu candidate elected on the Congress ticket, marking a notable detail in the party's representation.
