Punjab Congress leader Amrinder Singh Raja Warring criticized the BJP for selecting Kewal Singh Dhillon, a former Congress member, as its Punjab state president. According to Warring, this choice indicates the BJP's inability to find a suitable leader from within its own ranks.

Warring remarked that the BJP, which has ambitions of forming the next government in Punjab, is compelled to look outside its own cadre, having already appointed two state presidents from Congress backgrounds. Following Sunil Jakhar, Dhillon takes over the helm, bringing into question the BJP's internal leadership pipeline.

Dhillon, previously a Congress MLA from Barnala, joined the BJP in 2022 and was named vice-president before his latest promotion. As Punjab gears up for elections next year, the dynamics within its political landscape are evolving with these strategic alignments.
