Aaditya Thackeray, a leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), has voiced strong criticism following the assault on TMC Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee. Thackeray described the incident as an alarming indication of how democracy in India is rapidly diminishing.
He expressed concerns over the worsening state of law and order, suggesting it reflects poorly on India’s democratic system. Thackeray's comments come in the wake of a violent attack on Banerjee, who was targeted with stones and eggs in Sonarpur, West Bengal, while visiting victims of post-election violence. The MP alleged that BJP activists orchestrated the attack, nearly putting his life at risk.
Thackeray questioned the broader implications for the safety of public officials, stating, "If the safety of MPs cannot be assured, how can we expect to attract investors and tourists?" The incident has sparked significant controversy regarding political tensions and security in the region.
