In a significant announcement, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy declared the state government's willingness to fully fund the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, urging the central government to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for its expansion.
Despite repeated appeals to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several union ministers, the Centre has yet to approve the proposal, previously agreed upon for joint funding after L&T's exit due to incurred losses. The state government has taken control of existing metro assets at a considerable discount, but faces hurdles in transferring loans sanctioned by IRFC.
Criticizing the central government for discriminating against Telangana while approving similar projects in other states, Revanth Reddy also accused the previous BRS government of significant delays. The Chief Minister demanded immediate financial assistance from the Centre, highlighting political tensions and the need for immediate action to enhance urban transport infrastructure.
