In a significant political realignment, 20 MPs from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have joined forces with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). This move, confirmed by rebel MP Mala Roy, was made official on Sunday, with senior leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay set to provide further insights into the defection.
The exodus includes prominent figures like Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Satabdi Roy, who have shifted allegiances amidst growing internal dissent within TMC. The NCPI, although lesser-known, reportedly aligns more closely with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Criticism has emerged from TMC veteran Saugata Roy, who has condemned the defection as a tactic to escape the restrictions of the Anti-Defection Law. Roy has questioned the legitimacy and electoral influence of the NCPI, adding to the unfolding political drama.
