Romania's ruling PSD party loses majority after ally quits

Romania's ruling Social Democrats (PSD) lost their fragile parliamentary majority on Monday after a junior ally quit the government over policy, leaving them vulnerable to a confidence vote.

The move occurs a year before a national election and would normally raise the prospect of early polls. But a fragmented opposition may prefer to wait the full term out, analysts say.
