Himachal Pradesh may soon see a respite from the scorching heat as the Meteorological department forecasts showers over the upcoming days, extending until June 7.

A 'yellow' alert has been issued for thunderstorms and gusty winds in isolated areas, according to the Met department. Rain is expected across different regions including lower hills, mid hills, and even snow in higher elevations between June 4 and June 7.

This change in weather brought a significant dip in temperature on Monday evening, particularly in Shimla and the surrounding regions, providing relief from the soaring heat. Notably, Baijnath and Jogindernagar recorded 13 mm and 10 mm of rainfall respectively, while Neri in Hamirpur remained the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius. Una recorded a high of 43.2 degrees Celsius.

The recent showers were much-needed as forest fires have been on the rise and vegetable crops were withering due to the high temperatures. The state has already witnessed 1,318 fire incidents this year.
