Mumbai Monsoon Brings Unusual Wildlife Rescues

The southwest monsoon's arrival in Mumbai triggered multiple distress calls to RAWW. In Thane, a rare brown wood owl was rescued near Sanjay Gandhi National Park, alongside other animals and reptiles affected by the rains. Injured creatures are being treated in collaboration with the forest department.

The southwest monsoon's arrival in Mumbai on Sunday led to several distress calls to an animal rescue organization. RAWW founder Pawan Sharma reported rescuing a rare brown wood owl in Thane's Lokmanya Nagar, a possible first for the area.

The owl was found near Sanjay Gandhi National Park, believed to be displaced by the rains. Additionally, over a dozen other animals, birds, and reptiles were rescued in coordination with the forest department, including monkeys, bats, squirrels, flamingos, parakeets, kingfishers, koels, snakes, and turtles, some of which had injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
