Delhi's Green Revolution: Over 7.74 Lakh Plants to Be Distributed

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai launched a plant distribution campaign in Narela and Bawana, aiming to distribute over 7.74 lakh plants this year. This initiative is part of a broader development plan involving a Rs 204 crore investment in rural infrastructure and a Rs 900 crore budget for overall village development.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Thursday initiated a robust plant distribution campaign in the Narela and Bawana regions, targeting the distribution of more than 7.74 lakh plants for free this year. This initiative is a major component of broader development efforts aimed at enhancing village life.

The launch was announced during a 'Vikas Sabha' held in the Narela and Bawana Vidhan Sabha constituencies. Rai emphasized the government's unwavering dedication to providing improved facilities in Delhi's rural areas.

According to Rai, the Kejriwal government is allocating Rs 204 crore towards development projects in these villages, with a specific target of planting over 64 lakh saplings this year with the support of various green agencies.

Rai highlighted that the ambitious plans are part of an even broader initiative that sees the government dedicating Rs 900 crore to the comprehensive development of Delhi's villages. This hefty budget will fund essential infrastructure such as roads, drains, water bodies, community centres, parks, crematoriums, and playgrounds.

In addition to infrastructure development, increasing Delhi's green cover remains a focal point. Rai pointed out that ongoing efforts have led to a 30 per cent reduction in pollution since the Kejriwal government took office, largely due to extensive tree plantation campaigns.

The Delhi Gram Vikas Board, established by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, plays a crucial role in overseeing these projects, ensuring improved amenities through systematic implementation.

Rai urged the community to actively participate in the plantation drive, emphasizing the collective responsibility in tackling pollution. The plant distribution programme, which commenced on Thursday, is scheduled to run across 30 assembly constituencies in Delhi until August 9.
