Assam's Green Drive: CM Sarma Announces 3 Crore Saplings Initiative

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced an ambitious plan to plant three crore saplings across the state between August 1 and 15 in a bid to enhance forest cover.
Addressing the media, Sarma outlined the state’s objective to plant a total of 10 crore saplings over the next three to four years, aiming to boost forest cover by two percent. Last year, the state planted 1.12 crore saplings in a single day, achieving 90 percent survival rate.
To implement the 'Amrit Briksha Andolan' campaign, the state government has enlisted various agencies and central forces, including the army, air force, SSB, CRPF, BSF, schools, colleges, self-help groups, and NGOs. Sarma also highlighted ongoing afforestation on reclaimed areas from forest evictions and erosion-affected regions, with plans to continue such drives.
