Six weather stations in Delhi observed rainfall exceeding 100 mm in a single day, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to label it an 'extremely intense spell,' the department announced on Thursday.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra clarified that the heavy rains were not a cloudburst. The Safdarjung station recorded 107 mm, while significant rainfall was also noted at Mayur Vihar (147 mm), Najafgarh (113 mm), Ridge (113 mm), Lodi Road (106 mm), and Delhi University (104 mm).
Other stations like Pusa and Aaya Nagar observed slightly lesser amounts. Initially, Delhi was on 'orange' alert, later escalated to 'red' due to the intensified conditions. A 'yellow' alert was issued for the following days, warning of light to moderate rain.
