Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the 24x7 Manimajra water supply project in Chandigarh, marking a significant step towards efficient urban water management.
Punjab Governor and Union Territory Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria also attended the inauguration. Constructed at a cost of Rs 75 crore, the project aims to benefit over one lakh residents of Manimajra, including those in Modern Housing Complex, Shivalik Enclave, Indira Colony, and Shastri Nagar.
As part of the Smart City mission, this project seeks to reduce water wastage by ensuring a continuous high-pressure supply. Further objectives involve augmenting water resources through leakage reduction, smart metering, minimal groundwater reliance, and energy consumption monitoring. The project includes a 22 km water supply pipeline and two underground reservoirs, each with a capacity of two million gallons per day.
