Alert Issued in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum as Heavy Rain Swells Rivers

The East Singhbhum district administration in Jharkhand issued an alert for residents in low-lying areas on Sunday due to the rising water levels of Kharkhai and Swarnarekha rivers. This follows days of heavy rainfall, officials reported.

At 9 am on Sunday, the Swarnarekha river was recorded at 116.58 metres, just below its danger mark of 121.50 metres, while the Kharkhai river stood at 126.83 metres against a red mark of 129 metres, according to an official release.

Prompted by these developments, about 3,500 cusecs of water were released into the Swarnarekha from the Chandil Dam. Residents in catchment areas have been instructed to remain indoors and follow administrative guidelines strictly. NDRF teams have been deployed in Ranchi for rescue operations, and although the situation is currently under control, officials urge continuous vigilance.
