A 7.1 magnitude earthquake jolted southwestern Japan on Thursday, prompting tsunami advisories across the region, NHK reported. Despite the quake's severity, no significant damage has been reported thus far.

Initially, the quake was measured at a magnitude of 6.9 by NHK. Following the tremor, authorities issued advisories warning of a one-meter high tsunami targeting the Pacific coastline of Kyushu and Shikoku islands.

In Miyazaki prefecture located on Kyushu, waves reaching 20 centimeters were recorded, according to NHK.
