No Final Decision Yet on Delhi’s Master Plan 2041

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has not yet approved the draft Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) 2041. The proposal was forwarded by the Delhi Development Authority after its approval on February 28, 2023. The plan focuses on inclusive development and sustainability.

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has not taken any decision on the approval of the draft Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) 2041, the Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday.

In a written reply to a question, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu stated that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) approved the draft MPD-2041 on February 28, 2023. The proposal was then forwarded to the ministry for Government of India's approval for the issuance of the final notification.

During a meeting on February 28 last year, Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena, who is also the DDA Chairman, endorsed the draft MPD-2041. The plan emphasizes inclusive development, sustainability, transit-oriented development hubs, land pooling, and the rejuvenation of landmarks such as heritage sites and the Yamuna River. The first MPD was established in 1962 under the Delhi Development Act of 1957, aiming to provide a holistic framework for the city's development.
