Typhoon Yagi has wreaked havoc in Southeast Asia, claiming the lives of at least four individuals in Vietnam and injuring 78 more as it made landfall. Considered one of the most powerful typhoons in the region over the past decade, Yagi proceeded to disrupt life in China, leaving three people dead and nearly a hundred injured in Hainan province before moving to Vietnam.
Touching down in the coastal provinces of Quang Ninh and Haiphong, the typhoon brought winds reaching 149 kilometers per hour. The capital city, Hanoi, reported casualties from the storm's impact. Power outages plagued extensive areas, and several precautionary measures, including evacuations and airport closures, were taken to mitigate the damage.
Before making landfall in Vietnam, Yagi's trail of destruction spanned from the Philippines to China. In the Philippines, severe landslides and flooding resulted in 20 deaths and affected 2.3 million people. The catastrophic storm underscores the increasing intensity of typhoons in the region, attributed to climate change, as noted in a UN report.
