Typhoon Yagi's Aftermath: Damage and Recovery Efforts in Vietnam

Typhoon Yagi, Asia's most formidable storm this year, has been downgraded to a tropical depression. The storm left a trail of devastation in northern Vietnam, severely impacting factories and infrastructure in key industrial hubs. Vietnamese meteorological authorities have warned of continuing risks, including flooding and landslides, as the weakened storm moves westward.

In Hanoi, the storm disrupted power supplies and telecommunications, resulting in extensive flooding and widespread damage. Thousands of trees were felled, and homes were damaged, causing 21 fatalities and injuring 229 people. Yagi claimed lives earlier in the southern Chinese island of Hainan and the Philippines.

Haiphong's industrial parks, hosting multinational factories, were forced to close, leaving many workers unaware of the extent of the damage due to disrupted telecommunications. Significant damage was reported at DEEP C industrial zones, affecting over 150 investors. Recovery efforts in Hanoi include clearing streets of debris and assessing the full extent of the damage.

Despite the weakening of Yagi, the Vietnamese government has cautioned about ongoing risks of flash floods, especially in riverside areas like Hanoi. The storm's impact has prompted urgent recovery measures and left a lasting mark on the region's infrastructure and populace.
