The Mumbai civic body has taken decisive action in response to the city's worsening air pollution, halting new road digging projects.
BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani confirmed that essential roadwork for water supply repairs is exempted from this ban, emphasizing the need to prioritize air quality.
Violations by construction projects have led to immediate stop notices, with major enforcement in Byculla and Borivali. In addition, the BMC has implemented stringent 28-point guidelines and mandates an Environmental Management Plan from developers to address pollution.
