The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has rolled out an ambitious budget of Rs 17,000 crore for the upcoming financial year, giving top priority to sanitation with an allocation of Rs 4,907.11 crore. This budget also emphasizes infrastructure development, education, and waste management projects, signaling a multifaceted approach to urban governance.
Key initiatives include setting up waste-to-energy plants in Narela-Bawana and Ghazipur, bio-CNG facilities, and bio-methanisation plants expected to process significant amounts of waste by March 2025. Additionally, the MCD's green initiatives involve planting over 1.8 lakh trees and creating Miyawaki micro-forests, despite budget cuts for the horticulture department.
Significant allocations have been made towards education and healthcare, with a particular focus on strengthening infrastructure through projects such as the Sultanpuri railway crossing and the construction of the Lajpat Nagar Colony Hospital. The MCD has adopted technological advancements by installing FASTag-enabled parking systems and planning more EV charging stations to enhance urban mobility.
