A leopard that strayed into the Army War College campus in Mhow Cantonment, Madhya Pradesh, was safely captured after it entered a specially set up cage, confirmed a forest official on Friday.
The leopard was first seen on January 9, leading to the installation of two traps near the college. "A four-year-old male leopard was caught in one of these snares. It was taken to Kamla Nehru Zoo for a health check, which confirmed it was in optimal condition. We plan to release it back into the forest," stated Yohan Katara, in charge of the forest department's rescue operation.
Over the past two years, this is the fourth leopard rescue operation conducted by deploying cages in the Army War College grounds, as these animals often jump over the boundary in search of food and water, Katara noted.
