The Maharashtra government has unveiled a groundbreaking policy aimed at transforming Mumbai's cityscape by promoting the construction of iconic buildings. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the initiative, emphasizing its potential to augment the city's aesthetics and tourism allure.

The policy is designed to preserve Mumbai's unique identity established during the British era, with plans to encourage architecturally distinctive structures. Shinde highlighted the importance of such developments, citing examples of global cities known for their landmark buildings.

Presently, existing Development Control and Promotion Regulations in Mumbai have posed challenges in constructing unique buildings. To counter this, the government has proposed amendments under Section 37(1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, providing a dedicated provision to facilitate the development of these iconic structures.
