In a bid to elevate air quality, Indore has mandated the establishment of Pollution Under Control (PUC) centers at all petrol stations. The initiative comes after findings revealed that vehicle emissions significantly contribute to the city's pollution levels. Ashish Singh, Indore's collector, emphasized the urgency of this measure.
Operators of petrol pumps have a 15-day deadline to adhere to this regulation, failing which might result in station closure. This directive aligns with efforts under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) to maintain Indore's leading role in national cleanliness surveys, including its participation in the new 'Super Swachh League'.
Additionally, the administration is exploring green alternatives to coal for factories, addressing another pollution source identified by the Clean Air Catalyst study. Indore's commitment to cleanliness is further underscored by its consistent top performance in the National Swachh Survekshan.
