In a move to address the housing crisis for the economically weaker sections, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a comprehensive plan to overhaul the dilapidated EWS flats in Bhalswa-Jahangirpuri. During an inspection, Gupta condemned previous governments for abandoning the project.
Highlighting past neglect, Gupta revealed that approximately 7,400 flats, completed in 2016, have remained unused, falling into disrepair. She criticized earlier promises made without action and committed her government to redevelop the area into a 'model settlement'.
As part of the redevelopment, the government aims to introduce shops, adequate parking, and essential community facilities like a primary school and health center. The initiative is expected to provide Delhi's slum dwellers with better living conditions during the current government's term.
