Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled an ambitious plan to provide 'pucca' or concrete houses for all in the state, with a focus on economically weaker families. This announcement came during a state-level event at Boko in Kamrup district, where he launched the distribution of 3,25,234 sanction letters under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme.
The scheme, designed to provide housing across the country, has been effectively implemented in Assam, according to Sarma. He reported past progress, including the distribution of 5 lakh sanction letters in May 2022 and subsequent fund releases to beneficiaries in multiple phases.
Highlighting the success of the initiative, Sarma stated that 'Griha Pravesh' ceremonies for more than 3 lakh beneficiaries were held in a single day in July 2023. Additional sanction letters were distributed in March, with the commitment to reach more families via geo-tagged lists reviewed in gram sabhas, emphasizing the government's drive to ensure housing and dignity for all.
