Assam's Infrastructure Boom: Major Projects Worth Rs 55,000 Crore Sanctioned

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the sanction of central projects worth Rs 55,000 crore for various infrastructure developments in the state. These include the Kamakhya Ropeway project, an elevated corridor, and road development from Baihata Chariali to Tezpur. Additional medical and highway projects are also planned.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that central projects valued at approximately Rs 55,000 crore have been approved for the state over the past year. During a press conference, Sarma discussed both approved and planned initiatives, emphasizing the state's focus on infrastructure development.

The 'Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit' organized in February 2025 was pivotal in securing these projects. One highlighted project is the Kamakhya Ropeway from Kamakhya rail station to the temple, for which tenders have already been floated. An elevated corridor from Guwahati airport to Jalukbari is also expected to receive approval shortly.

Further, the national highway's four-laning between Baihata Chariali and Tezpur is close to approval. Sarma addressed environmental concerns regarding the Kamakhya corridor project, stating expert reports showed no ecological impact. New medical and highway projects highlighted Assam's ongoing development efforts.
