A Royal Bengal Tiger has made its way into the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha, as confirmed by park authorities on Sunday. This significant arrival indicates that the reserve's rich biodiversity continues to attract wildlife from afar.
According to Similipal Tiger Reserve field director Prakash Chand Gogineni, the tiger entered the core area during the months of December and January. Originating from Sundergarh district, the tiger traversed through Deogarh and Dhenkanal districts before reaching Similipal. Its movements were captured by trap cameras installed for the tiger census.
While it remains unclear from which state the Bengal Tiger embarked on its journey, its presence in Similipal is being considered a positive development. Officials are hopeful the tiger remains within the core area, and additional monitoring will occur with trap cameras later this year. The reserve is renowned for its rare black tigers, with the current estimation noting 27 adult tigers and eight cubs within its boundaries as of 2023–24.
