The industrial town of Jharsuguda topped the charts as Odisha's hottest spot, hitting 44.8°C amidst a sweeping heatwave in the state's western region, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The heatwave affected several towns, with temperatures exceeding 43°C in places like Sonepur, Titlagarh, and Bhawanipatna. Meanwhile, coastal regions experienced slight relief with temperatures hovering around 35.5°C in Bhubaneswar but faced high humidity.
This intense heat resulted in the postponement of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi's grievance hearing and an early start to school summer vacations. The IMD has also issued a warning for potential thunderstorms in several districts, urging residents to stay alert.
