India's May Forecast: Heatwaves and Unpredictable Rain
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts above-normal heatwaves in May for specific regions including the Himalayan foothills, east coast states, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Minimum temperatures will be high in many areas, while rainfall is expected to be mostly above normal across India, except for some eastern and northeastern parts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued its May forecast, predicting above-normal heatwave days in parts of the Himalayan foothills, east coast states, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Meanwhile, minimum temperatures are anticipated to rise above normal across many regions in the country.
In a statement, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology at IMD, stated that while the majority of the nation may experience increased minimum temperatures, several areas, particularly in northwest India, central India, the adjoining peninsular regions, and the southern parts of northeast India, may observe normal to below-normal temperatures.
Furthermore, the IMD has forecast that May rainfall in India is expected to be above normal, with the exception of some east, northeast, and east-central locations, where below-normal precipitation is likely.
