Blaze in Tuscany: Firefighters Battle Extensive Forest Fire in Italy

A significant forest fire in Tuscany has resulted in the evacuation of 3,000 residents. The blaze, exacerbated by strong winds, has spread over 800 hectares and necessitated the deployment of firefighting aircraft. Officials indicate that the fire began from burning olive tree prunings in the region.

Italian firefighters grappled with a massive forest fire on Friday in Tuscany, which has prompted the evacuation of around 3,000 locals. Fanned by strong winds, the unyielding blaze has scorched over 800 hectares since its outbreak on Tuesday on Mount Faeta, as reported by San Giuliano Terme's mayor.

Matteo Cecchelli, speaking to Italy's public broadcaster RAI, mentioned the likely origin of the fire—escalating from olive tree prunings that spiraled out of control. In a statement, regional president Eugenio Giani highlighted that fierce overnight winds intensified the situation, necessitating precautionary evacuations.

To combat the flames, three Canadair aircraft have been deployed, collecting water from nearby bodies to aid ground operations, as per updates on social media platform X from the national fire department. Lucca's deputy mayor, Fabio Barsanti, underscored the unpredictability of the blaze due to prevailing winds.
