Unearthing Nagatitan: The Southeast Asian Dinosaur Giant

Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis, a massive sauropod dinosaur unearthed in Thailand, was the largest known in Southeast Asia. Estimated to weigh 25-28 tons, it lived 113 million years ago, amidst a rich ecosystem. It thrived due to its enormous size, deterring predators and feeding on high volumes of vegetation.

Unearthing Nagatitan: The Southeast Asian Dinosaur Giant

A lumbering giant once roamed the ancient landscapes of present-day Thailand. Known as Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis, this immense sauropod dinosaur is the largest identified in Southeast Asia.

First discovered by a local villager, its skeletal remains were excavated by researchers over several years, revealing a creature estimated to weigh between 25 and 28 tons. Standing tall amongst treetops, Nagatitan fed without fear due to its sheer size.

The study, published in Scientific Reports, describes Nagatitan's habitat 113 million years ago—a vibrant ecosystem featuring predators and diverse flora. As the largest and youngest sauropod in the region, Nagatitan provides valuable insights into dinosaur evolution and adaptation.
