Concerns Raised Over Water Safety in Indore Amid Contamination Claims

The Madhya Pradesh Congress claims most water samples from Indore are contaminated. However, local officials question the study's credibility, accusing the Congress of spreading fear. The debate follows a recent water-related health crisis in Bhagirathpura, leading to an official investigation and compensation for affected families.

The Madhya Pradesh Congress has voiced alarm, suggesting that more than 90% of water samples from Indore are compromised. This follows a severe health crisis in Bhagirathpura, where vomiting and diarrhoea outbreaks were attributed to polluted water sources, leading to multiple casualties.

State Congress leader Jitu Patwari urged urgent action, alleging widespread contamination from a study covering 300 samples. The administration, however, disputes these results, denouncing them as misinformation. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava countered with a challenge for public debate, insisting on the water’s safety.

The ongoing conflict between local officials and Congress coincides with a tragic health episode in Bhagirathpura, where contrasting accounts exist. Congress alleges 36 deaths, while state authorities confirm 22 fatalities, supported by compensation disbursements.

A High Court-appointed commission is actively probing the incident. Led by former Justice Sushil Kumar Gupta, the body is tasked with delivering its conclusions by mid-June, potentially influencing local public health policies.
