Ramen Deka, the Governor of Chhattisgarh, emphasized the state's promising prospects for 'mango tourism' during a three-day National Mango Festival at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. He described the mango not just as a fruit but a vital component of India's cultural, agricultural, and rural economic framework.
Deka underlined the necessity for farmers to integrate advanced technologies with traditional farming methods to enhance the production and market reach of mango-based goods. Noting India as a global leader boasting over 1,000 mango varieties, he specifically pointed to the high-quality varieties unique to Chhattisgarh as a means for farmers to carve out a niche in the market.
The Governor mentioned regions like Bastar, Kondagaon, Kanker, and Surguja as prime zones for mango farming, highlighting their capability to foster employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, particularly for women. He urged agricultural bodies to collaborate in promoting this sector and stressed the importance of adding value to mango production.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai echoed this sentiment, asserting the state’s commitment to doubling farmer incomes, a target aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Mango cultivation is envisioned as a central avenue to achieve this economic goal.
